Light Engine

noun
  • Light Engine
  • ˈɫaɪt ˈɛndʒən

Especially in 3d printing it is common to call a UV DLP Light Projector a Light Engine.

Light Engines for industrial use, especially the ones from In-Vision, basically consist of the following sub systems:

• Projection Lens
• DMD
• Illumination
• Electronics
• Casing
• Cooling
• Sensorics

The Light Source (LED or Laser) emits light into the optical system where it is reflected by the mirrors of the DMD (controlled via the DLP controller) and leaves the device via the projection lens.
Both LED driver and DLP controller must be configured/controlled separately in order to ”get light out of the projector”.
Most applications work within the wavelengths 365nm, 385nm, 405nm
